In German
Löwe
Meaning: lion
Formal or informal? “Löwe” is lion. A lioness is “die Löwin”, and the word is often used with the phrase “König der Tiere” (king of the animals).
Example sentences
Der Löwe ist der König der Tiere.

Ich sehe den Löwen im Zoo.
I see the lion at the zoo.

Grammar note
“Der Löwe” is masculine. It's a weak noun, so every case except the nominative singular adds -en: “den Löwen” (accusative), “dem Löwen” (dative). The plural is “die Löwen”.
Common mistake
Don't say “den Löwe” for the accusative. Weak nouns take -en: “den Löwen”, with the -en. The female form “die Löwin” takes -in.
