In German
Tee
Meaning: tea
Formal or informal? “Tee” is tea. For herbal tea, the usual phrase is “Kräutertee”, and for iced tea “Eistee”.
Example sentences
Möchtest du einen Tee?
Would you like a tea?
Der Tee ist noch zu heiß.
The tea is still too hot.
Ich trinke abends gern Tee mit Honig.
In the evening I like to drink tea with honey.
Grammar note
“Der Tee” is masculine, so it takes “der” and “ein”. In an order you say “einen Tee” with the accusative “einen”, as in “Einen Tee, bitte.”
Common mistake
Don't say “die Tee”. The article is “der Tee”, masculine. Also “Tee” has a long vowel, so it's pronounced like “Tay”, not like “Tee” in English.
