In German

in

Meaning: in, into

Example sentences

    I'm going into the park.

  • WirtreffenunsimCafé.

    We'll meet at the café.

  • DieKinderspielenindemGarten.

The children play in the garden.

Grammar note

“In” is two-way: Akkusativ for moving into an enclosed space, Dativ for already being inside. “Im” contracts “in + dem” (Dativ, masculine/neuter).

Common mistake

Don't say “in das” when you mean “inside” an enclosed space already — that's Dativ, “in dem” (or “im”). “In das” (or “ins”) is only for movement into the space.
