Meaning: student
Formal or informal? “Student” is a university student. A pupil at school is “der Schüler”, and the female pupil is “die Schülerin”.

Grammar note
“Der Student” is masculine. It's a weak noun, so the plural and the accusative take -en: “die Studenten”, “den Studenten”. The female form is “die Studentin”.
Common mistake
Don't use “Student” for a school pupil. At school the word is “Schüler”, and “Student” is only for university.
