In German
nach
Meaning: to (a city or country, no article); after
Example sentences
WirfahrennachBerlin.
We're going to Berlin.
NachdemEssengehenwirspazieren.
After eating we go for a walk.
ErkommtnachderSchule.
He comes after school.
Grammar note
“Nach” always takes Dativ. For travel to a city or country, it's used without an article: “nach Berlin”, “nach Deutschland”. It also means “after” in time: “nach dem Essen”.
Common mistake
Don't add an article before a city or country name with “nach” — say “nach Berlin”, not “nach dem Berlin”. Articles only appear with “nach” for other nouns, like “nach dem Essen”.
