In German
vor
Meaning: in front of; ago, before (in time)
Example sentences
StelldasAutovordasHaus.
Park the car in front of the house.
DasAutostehtvordemHaus.
The car is parked in front of the house.
WirtreffenunsvorderSchule.
We'll meet in front of the school.
Grammar note
“Vor” is two-way for position: Akkusativ for moving to a spot in front of something, Dativ for already being there. It also means “ago” in time, always with Dativ: “vor einem Jahr” (a year ago).
Common mistake
Don't forget that time expressions with “vor” (ago) always take Dativ, even though they don't involve movement or classic “location” — “vor einem Jahr”, not “vor ein Jahr”.
