In German

ich

Meaning: I

Example sentences

  • Ichbinmüde.

    I am tired.

  • IchhabeeinenHund.

    I have a dog.

  • IchkommeausÄgypten.

    I come from Egypt.

Grammar note

“Ich” pairs with the first-person-singular verb ending, usually “-e”: “ich komme”, “ich mache”, “ich spiele”. The verb “sein” (to be) is irregular here: “ich bin”, not “ich bine”.

Common mistake

Unlike English, German “ich” is never capitalized mid-sentence just because it's a pronoun — only “Sie” (formal you) always gets a capital.
