Meaning: to study
Formal or informal? “Studieren” means to study at university. For studying at school or for a test in general, the usual word is “lernen”.

Grammar note
Regular, with the stem ending in -ier: ich studiere, du studierst, er studiert, wir studieren. The -ie before the ending is written but pronounced as one sound.
Common mistake
Don't use “studieren” for everyday learning. For learning a language or a fact, say “lernen”. “Studieren” is for a university course.
