Meaning: bus
Formal or informal? “Bus” is bus, the same word as in English. In a city, the transport network is often called “der öffentliche Nahverkehr”.

Grammar note
“Der Bus” is masculine, so it takes “der” and “ein”. The plural is “die Busse”, with -se added. “Mit dem Bus” means by bus.
Common mistake
Don't use “die Bus”. The article is “der Bus”, masculine. Note that the plural “Busse” has a double s.
