In German
rechts
Meaning: right
Formal or informal? “Rechts” is the direction right. “Richtig” means correct, and that's a different word, so don't mix them.
Example sentences
BiegenSieanderAmpelrechtsab.
Turn right at the traffic lights.
DieBankistrechtsvomBahnhof.
The bank is to the right of the station.
Dasistrichtig.
That's correct.
Grammar note
“Rechts” is an adverb of direction: “nach rechts”, “rechts abbiegen”. For “to be right” (be correct), say “Recht haben”, as in “Du hast recht.”
Common mistake
Don't say “Du bist rechts” to mean you're right. “Du hast recht” is correct, while “rechts” is the direction.
