In German
Regen
Meaning: rain
Formal or informal? “Regen” is rain. To say “it's raining”, the verb is “es regnet”, which is different from the noun.
Example sentences
Der Regen hört nicht auf.
The rain doesn't stop.
Ich nehme einen Schirm wegen des Regens.
I'm taking an umbrella because of the rain.
Im April gibt es oft Regen.

“Der Regen” is masculine, so it takes “der” and “ein”. In the genitive it's “des Regens”, as in “wegen des Regens” (because of the rain).
Common mistake
Use “es regnet” for the verb “it's raining”, not “es ist Regen”. The noun “Regen” is for talking about the rain itself.
