Meaning: time
Formal or informal? “Zeit” is the general word for time. To ask the clock time, say “Wie spät ist es?” (“What time is it?”).

Grammar note
“Die Zeit” is feminine, so it takes “die” and “eine”. The plural is “die Zeiten”. “Keine Zeit haben” means you have no time.
Common mistake
Don't use “Zeit” to ask the hour. Say “Wie spät ist es?” or “Wie viel Uhr ist es?”, not “Was ist die Zeit?”.
