In German

oder

Meaning: or

Example sentences

  • MöchtestduTeeoderKaffee?

Would you like tea or coffee?

  • WirkönnenlaufenodermitdemBusfahren.

We can walk or take the bus.

  • Istdasrichtigoderfalsch?

    Is that right or wrong?

Grammar note

Unlike “weil” and “dass”, “oder” doesn't change word order at all — the clause after it reads just like a normal sentence: “oder fahren wir mit dem Bus” keeps normal order, no verb-to-the-end rule.

Common mistake

Don't apply the verb-last rule to “oder” the way you would with “weil” or “dass” — “oder” leaves word order completely untouched.
